anxiety and phobias. By utilizing dual focus and bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or taps, EMDR activates the brain’s natural healing mechanisms. For a deeper walkthrough, see our Anxiety Therapy.
The goal of EMDR is to integrate traumatic experiences, leading to relief from distressing symptoms and a healthier adjustment of the nervous system.
How it helps ?
The process of EMDR allows the brain to process previously stored and blocked memories. By doing so, typically the prior symptoms related to the targeted traumatic memory naturally are alleviated or entirely disappear. The person receiving the treatment does not forgot what happened, however, the painful memory or memories lose their “charge” and are in a sense made emotionally neutral to the person, so they are no longer upsetting.
